New Delhi – Following the controversial missile strikes into Pakistani territory under “Operation Sindoor” on May 6, India has not released any new official statements but has initiated nationwide security preparations in anticipation of potential retaliation or regional instability.
🎯 Background: Operation Sindoor
The strikes were reportedly a targeted response to the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 civilians lost their lives in a suspected terrorist assault. India claimed the operation was “precise, non-escalatory, and limited to anti-terror infrastructure” in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and Punjab.
According to Reuters, India emphasized that no military or civilian installations in Pakistan were intentionally targeted.
🛡️ India Launches Nationwide Civil Defense Exercise
In the wake of heightened tensions, the Government of India has begun “Operation Abhyaas”, a massive civil defense preparedness drill involving 244 districts nationwide. The drill, held on May 7, includes:
- Air-raid siren tests
- Blackout simulations
- Evacuation and shelter protocols
- Civilian awareness training
The Ministry of Home Affairs stated:
“This exercise is not a cause for alarm but a precautionary measure to test national readiness in the face of regional threats.”
✈️ Indian Air Force Conducts “Exercise Aakraman”
Simultaneously, the Indian Air Force is running “Exercise Aakraman”, a military operation focusing on:
- Precision ground attacks
- Electronic warfare
- Counter-air operations
- Live-fire simulations
The exercise aims to test and enhance the IAF’s offensive capabilities in high-intensity warfare scenarios.
🌐 Global Caution and Diplomatic Silence
While India has refrained from announcing further strikes or escalating military action, the situation remains extremely volatile. International powers, including the United Nations, United States, and European Union, have urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint.
Al Jazeera continues to monitor the border developments in real time.
