Islamabad – Pakistan’s military on Tuesday confirmed that multiple Indian missiles struck deep inside Pakistani territory, hitting the cities of Muzaffarabad, Kotli (in Pakistan-administered Kashmir), and Bahawalpur in Punjab. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the attacks resulted in the death of a child and injuries to two civilians.
📍 Missile Strike Confirmation
In an official statement, ISPR declared:
“The Indian military has carried out unprovoked missile strikes on civilian areas in Pakistan. This heinous act has resulted in loss of innocent life and is a clear violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.”
The Pakistani Air Force has been placed on high alert, and commercial flight operations at major airports including Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi have been suspended. Several regions of airspace have been closed to civilian air traffic as a precaution.
⚠️ Civilian Casualties & Regional Response
According to reports verified by AP News, a child was killed in Muzaffarabad, while two more civilians were injured in Kotli as a result of the strike. Pakistan has strongly condemned the attack and warned that it will retaliate “at a time and place of its choosing.”
ISPR further stated:
“Pakistan reserves the right to respond in kind to this deliberate provocation.”
🌍 International Reaction
The situation has sparked global concern. The United Nations, United States, and European Union have called on both countries to exercise maximum restraint to avoid escalation between two nuclear-armed neighbors.
The Guardian and Al Jazeera have been covering the situation live, confirming statements from both nations and reporting local disruptions.
🕊️ What’s Next?
While no retaliatory strikes have yet been confirmed, Pakistan’s top military leadership has convened emergency security meetings. Analysts say a tit-for-tat exchange could rapidly destabilize the region if diplomatic de-escalation fails.
India, on the other hand, has maintained that its strikes were targeted, non-escalatory, and aimed at terrorist infrastructure following the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.
